Member of Parliament for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, Dr Dan Poulter, has welcomed the refurbishment of Hartsimere Hospital in Eye, after attending the official opening of the new community facility.
Hartismere was closed as an effective community hospital by Suffolk Primary Care Trust in 2006. Upon hearing about its closure, Dr Poulter took over the campaign to reopen it, initially led by former MP Sir Michael Lord, and, working with the local community, helped to secure £1.5 million of funding to complete its refurbishment.
Work to revitalise the community hospital began in March 2011, and the new facility will continue to house a mixture of community and specialist services, including podiatry, health visiting, continence, mental health, diagnostics, rehabilitation, retinal screening and more.

I do not intend to rehearse the discussion on the lack of, or reduction in, funding for the...
